Leadership NORTH is an annual leadership development program for the north Baton Rouge region. The Zachary Chamber of Commerce hosts the program with assistance from Louisiana Department of Economic Development and LSU Ag Center. Participation in the program is open to persons living or working in Baton Rouge, Zachary, Central, Baker, Pointe Coupee, East and West Feliciana Parishes who have the full support of the organization or business they represent. The program is designed to engage emerging leaders in our region and prepare them to meet the future needs of our communities. Through the exchange of viewpoints and experiences, participants are exposed to the challenges, opportunities and vital issues affecting the northern Baton Rouge region.

Session 1 – Class Introductions & Leadership Styles – March 20, 2014 8:00 AM to Noon Tuition is $500 for the program and can be made payable to the Zachary Chamber of Commerce.

This is an interactive session that provides participants with an opportunity to learn more about one another and identify important aspects of leadership. Each participant will take a personality assessment to determine his or her preferred leadership style.
Session 2 – Louisiana Regional Visits – April 17, 2014 - 7:00 AM – 5:00PM
Participants will have an opportunity to tour communities who have had success in leadership, economic development and improving the marketability of their community.
Session 3 – State Government – May 15, 2014 - 8:00 AM – 4:00PM
Participants will learn about the process involving different aspects of state government including a visit to the state capitol.
Session 4 – Strategic Communication for Leaders – June 19, 2014 - 8:00 AM – Noon
Leaders are on display every day and, like it or not, are judged on how they effectively they communicate business objectives and company values. Participants will learn the value of developing and delivering credible messages.
Session 5 – Working Together – July 17, 2014 - 8:00 AM – Noon
Participants will learn about negotiation skills and how to work more effectively with groups.
Session 6 –Basics of Economic and Workforce Development – August 21, 2014 - 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
This session will provide an overview of economic development, site selection, business retention and expansion.
Session 7 – Reaching Out – September 18, 2014 - 8:00 AM – Noon
This session will provide participating communities the opportunity to discuss the region’s potential, propose solutions and learn how to get engaged.
Session 8 – Final thoughts and Graduation – October/November – Final Date TBDFees/Admission
